Born to a Polish mother in Italy, he was a renowned author, poet, playwright and art critic in France where he was known as Guillaume Apollinaire. This novel was on the banned list of books until 1970 in France. Apollinaire never publicly acknowledged authorship of the novel which follows the trail of debauched aristocrat Mony Vibescu and his circle of fellow sybarites in their quest for depravity, uncontrollable lust, and bloody cruelty throughout the cities of Europe.
