    310 p. 19 cm. Grey cloth hardcover has blind impressing, faded spine, worn corners, chipping of spine ends. Difficult to judge original cloth colour. Ink inscription and blind stamp on front free endpaper. Pages 13-16 chipped and a few other minor roughened edges. A few uncut pages. In Part 1, the author wanders around Geneva, the Grand Saleve, the junction of the Arve and the Rhone, Chamouny, Cascade des Pelerines, the pass of the Grand St. Bernard, the lower valley of Aoste in Ivrea and Turin. In Part 2 he meanders about Lake Leman, the baths of Leuk, Berne, Interlachen, Staubach, the valley of Lauterbrunnen, the Jungfrau and its avalanches, the glaciers of Grindlewald, the pass of the Scheideck to Meyringen, Reichenbach, the River Aar, pass of the Furca, the Devil's Bridge, Lucerne, Zurich, Locarno, the buried town of Pleurs, Lake Como and Milan. Through all this drifting he finds time to share his thoughts on various antiquities, William Tell, Da Vinci, scenery, the interpretation of nature, the truth of Christ, the piety of his guides, the Swiss national character, Jesuits, alpine flowers and the "serious side of travel."
