Pepys speaks of Lord Vaughan as "one of the lewdest fellows of the age, worse than Sir Charles Sedley" (DNB). That was saying a great deal, for some of Sedley's poetry is raunchy indeed. The 5th Baronet, Sir Charles Sedley (1639-1701) was a politican, dramatist and famed wit of his day. His poetry explores both satrie and amorous topics. Works in these two volumes: The Happy Pair; Antony and Cleopatra, a Tragedy; Teh Mulberry Garden, a comedy; Venus and Adonis; Bellamira; The Grumbler; The Tyrant King of Crete; and Memoirs of the Authors Wife.
