Artist and illustrator Cecil Aldin (1870 1935) was best known for his paintings and sketches of animals, sports, and rural life. Here he writes and illustrates England's inns, roads, stage coaches, and travellers in early 19th century, illustrated by himself. In his prologue he speculates about travel in 2028: "the countryside will probably be a mass of hoardings, petrol pumps, and aeroplane landing-stations."
