The CGS Petrel was a Canadian government patrol vessel built in 1892 to protect fisheries on the Great Lakes. The goal was to stop illegal fishing by American poachers on Lake Erie and the upper Great Lakes. Fitted for minesweeping in 1912, the Petrel served as a Royal Canadian Navy examination vessel during World War I and was discarded after the war.
