Christies, Newport's oldest waterfront eatery, opened in Newport in 1945 when owner Steve Christie moved it there from New York's theatre district. With six dining rooms and three bars, the restaurant could hold 500 people at a time. Later it was owned by the Crowley family, but after the death of Michael F. Crowley, his family decided to sell. Closed in 2000s.
