Joseph Hémard (1880-1961) was one of the most remarkable French illustrators of his generation. His drawings stood out for their humour, eroticism, and imaginative qualities. His work consists of cartoons and picture stories for magazines as well as a comic book, but he is best known for his book illustrations for publishers like René Kieffer and Mornay. Technical reference works such as pharmacological manuals, tax laws, and other dull tomes became true works of art with his inventive illustrations.
