Edna Cooke Shoemaker (1889 – 1975 was an American artist and illustrator from Philadelphia. Besides creating this book cover, she illustrated magazine advertisements, covers for magazines like Ladies' Home Journal, and children's books such as Mother Goose. Edna and her husband, Orlando, staged marionette shows for their children, making their own figures and backdrops, all painted by Edna. As the children grew older, they became active in putting on the shows, which were staged for the entertainment of others, including American servicemen during World War II.
