An Indian Land Sale Grant refers to the legal transfer of ownership of reserve lands, previously held in trust for First Nations, to individuals or entities, often through a sale or other disposition. George Yates was postmaster of Oil Springs from 1875 to 1895. This document is signed by John Joseph McGee, Deputy of Lord Stanley, for whom the Stanley Cup is named. Another signature is that of W.A. Orr, Registrar of Indian land patents within the Lands and Timber Branch of the Department of Indian Affairs from 1883 to 1920. Signature at bottom right is that of Lawrence Vankoughnet, Deputy of the Superintendent-General of Indian Affairs from 1874 to 1893. Note that the property in question contains an Indian Burying Ground.
