Larratt William Smith (c.18201905) was a prominent Toronto lawyer, entrepreneur, and University of Toronto vice-chancellor, while his son, Goldwin Larratt Smith (18721948), was a lawyer and executor. Larratt Sr. purchased the Summer Hill estate in 1866, transforming it into a renowned family home that gave the modern-day Summerhill neighbourhood in Toronto its name. He was also deeply involved in the development of the Deer Park neighbourhood in North Toronto during the late 19th century.
