Carole Landis (1919 1948) worked as a contract player for Twentieth Century Fox in the 1940s but is most remembered as the female lead in the 1940 film One Million B.C. from United Artists. She was known as "The Ping Girl" and "The Chest" because of her curvy figure. She became involved with actor Rex Harrison, who was then married to actress Lilli Palmer, and their affair became an open secret in Hollywood. Apparently crushed when Harrison refused to divorce his wife for her, she committed suicide on July 5, 1948. After her death, Harrison downplayed their relationship and claimed she was merely a close friend of himself and Palmer. Her family has questioned the coroner's ruling of suicide.
