The last Chandler novel featuring detective Philip Marlowe with a plot much simpler than his previous cases. Instead, the atmosphere of a small coastal village takes centre stage. Marlowe is there to tail a good looking redhead on behalf of a lawyer he's never heard of. Marlowe being Marlowe, he prefers to help the girl.
