Name Clifton's was a compound from the name of Clifford E. Clinton who established Clifton's in 1931 to apply the Golden Rule to the restaurant business. Located at 618 So. Olive St., "The Cafeteria of the Golden Rule" priced all food at cost, served "about 16,000" meals a day, offered a free sightseeing trip daily, gave free bridge talks, served limeade without charge, hired the physically handicapped, and even offered and a free advisory service with Mr. C. himself on appointment. Closed 2018.
