This book continues Father Richard Simon's earlier Critical History of the Old Testament, giving an account of the various translations of the New Testament, both ancient and modern, and discussing the way in which difficult passages have been rendered in the various versions. Simon (1638-1712), possibly the founder of Biblical criticism, had his writings attacked by both Catholics and Protestants.
