This bridge connecting Niagara Falls, Ontario to Niagara Falls, New York was completed over the Niagara Gorge August 27, 1897. Originally called the Lower Arch Bridge, it became the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge in 1939, and served vehicle, rail and pedestrian traffic. Currently the Maple Leaf train service, jointly operated by Amtrak and Via Rail, is the only train to use the bridge.
