Letter from Olive to Little Pearl

An early 20th century letter from "Olive" in Cobalt, Ontario to "Pearl" who lives close to Arnprior, Ontario. Olive is from "C.P." (Carleton Place perhaps?) and has a job there but she's enjoying Northern Ontario. Cobalt is rough but she likes the atmosphere. She visited a big rock called "The Whale's Back" or "The Mile Rock", has been swimming at Haileybury, and may be going on an excursion to new Liskeard which she describes as "an hour's run on the street car." Poor Olive is feeling "punk" and suffering from "nerves" so perhaps she's on a rest cure. She also describes a big fire in Cobalt that burned six stores. An interesting read that leaves questions unanswered, since we haven't been able to identify Olive or Pearl. However, Temiskaming Streetcar Line was an interurban streetcar system connecting New Liskeard, Haileybury and Cobalt on the western bank of Lake Temiskaming in northern Ontario from 1910 to 1935.
