A classic work on butterlies with lovely coloured plates, each featuring more than one illustration. Bookplate for Edward Barrett Curteis, English Whig politician who was an MP for Rye, Sussex. Thomas Elliott of Playden also lived near Rye. Smaller label for Walter Ambrose Heath Harding (1870-1942) of Madingley Hall, Cambridge, a well-known zoologist.

Armorial bookplate on front pastedown for Edward Barrett Curteis as well as a smaller label for W. A. Harding, Madingley. Ink signature on title page for Thomas Elliott of Playden, Sussex. Foxing is mainly to first and last pages.
