Joseph Robson was surveyor and supervisor of the buildings of the Hudson's Bay Compay. As a long resident of the north, he had an intimate knowledge of HBC land and personnel, and was able to comment on the HBC's failure to promote fishing and mining enterprises and to explore and settle the interior.
