Bourrienne is most famous for these memoirs, a work based on years of intimate friendship and professional association as Napoleon's secretary. He first met Napoleon at the Military Academy at Brienne in Champagne when eight years old. Besides discussion of Napoleon himself, the author also provides information about the Emperor's family.
