Whitelaw was colonel of the Royal Canadian Regiment but most of these photos do not pertain to the R.C.R. Most relevant, identified items as follows: 1) Two cards of Col. R. Gordon Whitelaw, The Royal Canadian Regiment. 2) Empty envelope addressed to Major Robert Gordon Whitelaw, the R.C.R., Headquarters, Military District No. 1, London, Ont. 3) Letter to Col. R. G. Whitelaw, Commandant, Officers Training Centre, Brockville, Ont. From Gerald Clark of the Montreal Standard. Includes article called Battle of the Ticks about the Training Centre, and asks Whitelaw to comment. In envelope. Feb. 1942. 4) Photo postcard of man with horse addressed to Whitelaw with Christmas wishes for 1925. 5) Three 22 x 22 cm photos of cottage on beach. 6) Two 11 cm photos of woman and dog on porch Bayview initialed H.P. 7) Two 20 x 25 cm military group photos in front of same building, stamped C. O. Gustafsons Studio, Sherbrooke, Que. Sheet labelling names in both back row and front row may refer to one of these photos. Militia Staff Course, Lennoxville, PQ, 1931. 8) Three 17 x 26 cm photos of military group in front of same wall map 2 are identical, other includes one extra man and a woman. Stamped Canadian Army Photo. 9) Five 9 x 14 cm photo post cards featuring Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Camberley, England. 10) Ten 10 8 x 12 cm photos, 1 labeled May 21st 1934, Singoosh Lake - Singush Lake, Manitoba? 11) Five 7 x 10 cm photos of generators burning. Site not identified. 12) One 11 x 16 cm photo of King and Queen in Canada somewhere accompanied by Mountie and others Royal Visit of 1939 2 more photos of K&Q. 13) 9 x 14 cm group photo, Canadian Warfare School, First Course, Aug.-Oct. 1921, Rockliffe, Ottawa. 14) Envelope with over 80 6x6 cm photos, all identified on rear in pencil, of tour around USA emphasis on US Civil War battlegrounds, etc. 15) 12 cm photo of Shirley Sybil Davison, 2 yrs, 9 mths old.16) 10 cm photo of couple on S. S. Hamonic, June 14, 1918. She is Etta. He is in uniform. Hamonic was a passenger vessel designed for service on the Great Lakes. It was launched in 1909, and served until it burned in a catastrophic fire at Sarnia, Ontario on July 17, 1945. 17) 9 x 14 cm photo postcard of Winter Garden, Regent Palace Hotel, Piccadilly Circus. 18) 13 x 18 cm photo of YMCA Tea Car with crowd, as well as five 11 x 13 cm photos of same. Vehicle says Iron Duke Directly from the Battle of Britain. Y.M.C.A's "Iron Duke" mobile tea canteen was on tour around Canada and the US in 1941. It was named after the Duke of Wellington and the Iron Duke warship put of out commission by Germany in WWII. The tea canteen volunteers would serve tea and sandwiches in areas that were bombed by the Luftwaffe. The vehicle was damaged while being used in London during the Blitz. The two women in one photo are likely Mrs. Robin Gurdon and Mrs. Lionel Gibbs. Their tour was part of a morale-building exercise overseas and drummed up support for the allies. 19) Six 12 x 17 cm photos of military parade, King Street, Brockville, Ontario same viewpoint, different parts of parade city identified by way of Beacock Motor Cars, Capitol Theatre and Victoria Hall in background.
