An early record of the views of people who fought to advance the causes of conservation and preservation of game and wilderness. Some of the most influential sportsmen and conservationists of the day contributed to this album: The editors: George Bird Grinnell: the founder of the National Audubon Society and longtime editor of Field & Stream magazine. Kermit Roosevelt, son of President Theodore, explored the wilderness of several continents with his father. W. Redmond Cross was an investment banker and onetime president of the New York Zoological Society. Prentiss N. Gray was an avid outdoorsman whose journals about hunting and fishing were published as "From the Peace to the Fraser."Some of the authors: Madison Grant is credited with the saving of many different species of animals, founding environmental and philanthropic organizations, and developing much of the discipline of wildlife management. Lincoln Ellsworth was a polar explorer and a major benefactor of the American Museum of Natural History. Frederick Russell Burnham, world-traveling adventurer, taught woodcraft to Robert Baden-Powell and helped inspire the international Scouting Movement. Henry Wharton Shoemaker was a prominent American folklorist, historian, diplomat, writer, publisher, and conservationist.
