This is a book about one of the most important events in the history of space exploration: the assembly of the first orbital station. On January 15-16, 1969, spacecraft Soyuz-4 and Soyuz-5 piloted by cosmonauts Vladimir Shatalov and Boris Volynov established radio contact and performed maneuvre, ducking and tight contact. Following this the other crewmen, Yevgeni Khrunov and Alexei Yeliseyev, transferred from Soyuz-5 to Soyuz-4 via open space. After a prolonged flight as a single unit the spacecraft separated and landed in the assigned area. Photos show the astronauts pre-flight training, rehearsing the tranhsfer, return.
