Originally issued in 30 monthly parts bound in printed paper wrappers, each with four engravings and eight or twelve pages of text; also issued in quarterly instalments. Undated, but printed after 1863 when the New York firm moved to Dey Street, where it continued into the 1870s. Also printed during use of form "Virtue and Co." by London firm, between 1865 and 1875. Map engraved by W. Hughes with plates by numerous individuals. A lovely copy of this early portrayal of Canadian life and scenery.

Full leather with gold print and dark brown impressing, gold trim to edges, and all text block edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Moderate wear to extremities. Small owner's label on verso of front free. A beautiful binding with clean plates and intact clean tissue guards. Some faint dampstains to bottom edges Part I p. 115 - Part II p. 13.
