Spark's second novel is an entertaining comedy as well as an adventure tale. Like all adventures, it starts with a map, in this case of an island called Robinson. Besides being a tropical isle - and an allusion to Robinson Crusoe - Robinson is also the name of a recluse who lives on the island, an unwilling, misanthropic host to uninvited guests who crash land.
