In 1851, Freeman Talbot began publishing the "Middlesex Prototype" in London, Ontario. It printed news articles as well as articles about farming, mechanics, education and temperance. March 5, 1861 was almost entirely devoted to a survey of the industries of London and provides a valuable cross-section of London's economic history.
