Lt.-Col. Joseph Bouchette (1774 - 1841) was Surveyor-General of British North America. This book, written immediately after the War of 1812, contains the sum knowledge of what was known about the Canadas at that time. Of greatest interest are the maps, which include the Town of William Henry, Plan of the Townships on the Ottawa River, Plan of the Route from Halifax to the River du Loup on the St. Lawrence, Kingston Channels, York Harbour, and Oswego Harbour.
