Sir George Treby (1644? - 1700) was Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas and six times Member of Parliament for the "Rotten Borough" of Plympton Erle, Devon. Treby acted as chairman of the Committee of Secrecy dedicated to investigating the supposed Popish Plot. The prosecution of Fitzharris (1648? - 1681) for involvement in the plot became a struggle for jurisdiction involving the courts and the two Houses of Parliament. He was executed for treason in 1681.
