War Horse is a children's novel set during World War I. Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. Joey's rider, Captain Nicholls, is killed while riding him. The horse is soon caught up in the horrors of trench warfare, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in No Man's Land. Albert cannot forget Joey and, though not old enough to enlist in the British Army, he embarks on a dangerous mission to find his horse and bring him home. The book was adapted into a film version by Steven Spielberg.
