The Scottish physician James Hamilton (1767-1839) was a co-founder, in 1791, of the Lying-In Hospital in that city. He was also President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh from 1812 to 1815 and Professor of Medicine and Midwifery at Edinburgh University from 1800 to 1839. This text was first published in 1819 in Edinburgh.
