Thomas Chatterton (1752-1770) was an English poet infamous for his "translations" of Thomas Rowley a 15th century monk. The writings were actually original compositions by Chatterton. Chatterton also wrote political criticism, opera, lyric, verse, and eclogues. Suffering financial problems throughout his young life and unable to find a patron, Chatterton committed suicide by poison, ending his life at the age of seventeen.
