A first edition of the first of Bailly's historical works, presenting his rather eccentric theories about the Atlantean origns of astronomy. Bailly (1736-1793) was a French astronomer, mathematician, freemason and political leader during the early part of the French Revolution. He served as mayor of Paris from 1789 to 1791 but was guillotined during the Reign of Terror.
