The principal terms of arts and sciences; the publick and solemn actions, as festivals, plays, &c. The statues and laws; and withal, the history of general and particular councils, under r the names of the places where they have been celebrated. The whole being full of remarks and curious enquiries, for the illustration of several difficulties in Theology, History, Chronology, and Geography. Collected from the best Historians, Chronologers, and Lexicographers; as Calvisus, Helvicus, Isaacson, Marsham, Baudrand, Hoffman, Lloyd, Chevreau, and others: but more especially out of Lewis Morery, D. D. his eighth edition corrected and enlarged by Monsieur Le Clerc, in two volumes in folio. To which are added, by way supplement, intermix'd thorughout the alphabet, the lives, most remarkable actions, and writings of several illustrious families of our English, Scotch, and Irish nobility, and gentry, and most famous men of all professions, arts and sciences: as also, an exact description of these kingdoms; with the most considerable occurrences that have happened to this present time.     2 vols. Unpaginated/ 39 cm full leather folios. Frontispiece portraits of Collier in both volumes. Ex-library with labels affixed to lower corner of front pastedown endpapers. Boards detached from both volumes. Leather bindings show wear with tears, scuffing, bumped corners, edges, and extremes. Pages clean. Text unmarked. While the leather does not match, the set does begin of the same edition and printed in the same year. Sold "as-is."
