This well-known publication became known as the "Glasgow Geography." It was often revised and reprinted, not just in Britain but in the U.S. and in France under a different name. James Bell spent much of his career revising and improving successive editions as geographic knowledge advanced. Volume 5 contains China and North America. At this early date the western part of N.A. was a vast wilderness and the book contains a section on the "Unexplored Tracts of North America."
