Martin Louis Alan Gompertz (1886 1951), born in India, was known by the pseudonym of "Ganpat," another name for the elephant god "Ganesh." The author's journey includes the Dras Valley, Kargil, the gate of Lamaland, over the Nimaki La, the Photu La and Lamayuru, the Indus Valley, from Nurla to Nyemu, Leh monasteries, Khardong Pass, etc.
