Recollections of an Artillery Officer: Including Scenes and Adventures in Ireland, America, Flanders, and France

HILL, Benson Earle

Regular price $1,250.00 Sale

The author (1790? - 1845) journeyed to Ireland in 1810 to join the Royal Artillery as a Second Lieutenant. His first active military service was at the British defeat at New Orleans, and he appeared at Waterloo too late to join in the battle. While his memoirs may be of interest to military historians, they may be even more appealing to theatre buffs. Much of Hill's spare time was spent attending theatrical presentations or performing as an amateur actor himself. Bookplate is likely that of Lt. Col. Clifford Cyril Scott (1876-1968) of the Durham Light Infantry.
