This is a Victorian edition of a religious tract written by William Laud (1573-1645). Laud was the Archbishop of Canterbury during the reign of King Charles I until his arrest in 1640 and later execution in 1645 for treason. Laud found himself in considerable conflict with the English Government in regards to issues of religious ritual which were very important to him. In this particular text, Laud argues against leniency towards Catholics in England.
