The author was founder of "Meehan’s Monthly" and editor of "Gardener’s Monthly." These are the first two volumes in a set of four. Beautiful plates by Austrian-born watercolour painter Alois Lunzer who specialised in botanical illustrations. The publisher, Louis Prang, is best known as the "father of the American Christmas card" but was also a general printer and lithographer.
