British engraver Letitia Byrne (1779-1849) was the daughter and pupil of engraver William Byrne. Artistic talent ran in her family; all her five siblings also became artists, including her three sisters. Letitia was exhibiting at the Royal Academy at the age of 20, but reached real success when she etched the series of scenes for this book. The original artist who drew the scenes was the author, Paul Amsinck. Many well-known landmarks are to be found here, including the enormous house called Knole, Penshurst Place, and Hever Castle.
