This volume is signed and inscribed by the Norwegian-Canadian novelist and screenwriter Martha Ostenso, best known for her award-winning novel Wild Geese, published in 1925. Her endpaper notes show her determination to be come a "photo-play" writer, stating "Resolved - This 1st day of January, 1916, That this year shall not die before I have made a worthy effort to succeed." As she achieved a certain amount of success in her writing career, we can only assume this book helped. Modern readers may be amused by some sections of the book itself, including "Kind of Plays to Avoid" and "Censorship", but much of the text will still apply to writers of the "talkie" era.
