Charles Heavysege (1816-1876) was best known for poetry and drama and only wrote this one novel. It was not well-received at the time, but whether this stems from its style, its Canadian origin, or perceived sexual immorality remains unclear. The author himself destroyed as many copies as he could, making this somewhat of a rare find.
