Includes Chaucer, Spenser, Shakespeare, Milton, Dryden, Pope, Cowper, Swift, Burns (despite this poet's Scottish origins) and numerous others. English writer William Hazlitt (1778 – 1830) is known for his humanistic essays and literary criticism, as well as a grammarian and philosopher. He is often considered one of the great critics and essayists of the English language, placed in the company of Samuel Johnson and George Orwell, yet his work is little-read and mostly out of print.
