Title continues: "Being An Account of the Ministers, Who were ejected or silenced after the Restoration, paricularly by the Act of Uniformity, which took Place on Batholomew-day, Aug. 24. 1662. Containing a concise view of Their Lives and Characters, their Principles, Sufferings, and Printed Works." The Act of Uniformity of 1662 forced roughly 2000 ministers from the Church of England for not being ordained by a bishop. Nonconformists (those who did not attend the Church of England) were denied public services and also disallowed from holding certain public offices. These books commemorate their lives and struggles, organizing those descriptions by geographic region.
