Michel de Marolles (1600-1681) was a French clergyman and translator known for his collection of 123,000 engravings. Colbert bought the collection from him in 1667 to give to Louis XIV. This acquisition is considered the foundation of the collection of engravings in the French royal library. Marolles translated many famous Latin authors, including Virgil, Horace, Ovid, Juvenal, etc. These Memoires have critical notes added by Abbe Gouget. Table of Contents at rear of volume III.
