Barbara Howard (1926-2002), Canadian artist and wood engraver, was part of a circle of artists, writers and designers that included her husband Richard Outram. She and Outram operated the Gauntlet Press, producing hand-bound letterpress volumes of his poetry illustrated with her wood engravings. Her friend and associate, graphic designer Allan Fleming, owned the Martlet Press. This compilation was published by him at a time when Howard's main interest was in drawing the male or female human figure. An invitation to a Toronto gallery preview is tucked inside.
