A year to year account, 1812-1862, based on Merritt's papers. He served in the war of 1812, founded the city of St. Catherines and promoted the Welland Canal, the Northern and other railway enterprises. A moderate reformer, he sat in the Legislative Assembly from 1832 to 1860, holding various administrative posts.
