Read before the society on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1903, Scott's text advocated for a direct northern transcontinental rail line connecting Quebec to the Pacific coast to develop regional trade, timber, and minerals. Scott (18471932) was GM of the Quebec and Lake St. John Railway and of the Great Northern Railway. O'Sullivan was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society of London.
