A Narrative of Occurrences in the Indian Countries of North America

[WILCOCKE, Samuel Hull (attributed)]

Regular price $500.00 Sale

Title continues: "since the Connexion of the Right Hon. the Earl of Selkirk with the Hudson's Bay Company, and his Attempt to Establish a Colony of the Red River; With a Detailed Account of His Lordship's Military expedition to, and subsequent proceedings at Fort William in Upper Canada." A work also attributed to Simon McGillivray or Edward Ellice, the elder. The Museum of Nature and Man in Winnipeg has a presentation copy signed by McGillivray which seems to indicate authorship. However, Peel (3) 106 and TPL 1108 state that this book was prepared by Wilcocke, a "hack-writer" in the employ of the Northwest Company. It appears to be a reply to John Halkett's "Statement respecting the Earl of Selkirk's settlement of Kildonan upon the Red River in North America."
