Despite Europe being "the most civilized ... of the great divisions of the earth" (p. 7), there is a concentration of USA maps in this American Edition of Black's General Atlas of the World. Besides showing the Earth as it was in 1879, there are also maps of the solar system, the ancient world, and the Roman and Persian empires. The publishing firm of Adam and Charles Black published several editions of this atlas.
