Auden and Isherwood's last collaborative play tells of an outbreak of war between two fictional countries named Ostnia and Westland. Written in both prose and verse, it is considered the successor to "The Ascent of F6." Copyright page states this play was to be produced on November 14, 1938 by Rupert Doone for the Group Theatre with music by Benjamin Britten and scenery and costumes by Robert Medley, at the Arts Theatre, Cambridge. This copy is signed by Douglas Valentine LePan (1914 – 1998), a Canadian diplomat, poet, novelist and professor of literature.
