Charles Knight (1791-1873) was a Victorian publisher and editor. His editions of Shakespeare were some of the most popular and widely distributed throughout the nineteenth century in England, the United States, and elsewhere. The "Imperial" edition was so named because it was printed on large, imperial size paper. Vol. II contains an interesting section with plays "ascribed" to Shakespeare as well as indexes to the plays and poems and a "brief notice of opinion" on the writings of Shakespeare. The volumes contain footnotes and fore notes to each play. Still an impressive collection of Shakespeare with great shelf presence.
